Babadağ Mountain Guide

Everything you need to know about the legendary Babadağ paragliding mountain.

What Makes Babadağ One of the World's Best Paragliding Mountains?

Babadağ rises 1,960 metres straight out of the Mediterranean, directly above Ölüdeniz's Blue Lagoon — a combination of altitude, coastal thermals and a beach landing that very few paragliding sites anywhere can match.

It has hosted World Cup paragliding competitions and draws pilots and first-time flyers from across the world every season, making it one of the most-flown mountains on the planet.

How High Is Babadağ and Where Do Flights Launch From?

The mountain has four separate launch points between 1,200m and 1,900m, chosen on the day based on wind, cloudbase and experience — the 1,960m summit itself is used mainly by competition and experienced cross-country pilots.

  • 1,200m — the standard tandem launch, wide and forgiving, best for first-timers
  • 1,700m — longer flights with stronger thermals and wider views
  • 1,800m — high-altitude flights on good thermal days
  • 1,900m — just below the summit; the longest, most panoramic routes

How Do You Get to the Top of Babadağ?

Two options: the mountain road (about 30–35 minutes by vehicle) or the Babadağ teleferik (cable car). Every tandem package with Atmos Paragliding includes the transfer, so you don't need to arrange anything yourself.

See our dedicated guides to the mountain road and the teleferik — including the QR ticket system — for the full details.

When Is the Best Time to Fly at Babadağ?

The season runs from April to October. May, June, September and October give the most reliable, well-organised thermals, while July and August bring the strongest lift and the longest flying days.

What Happens on Flight Day?

You're picked up from your hotel, transferred to the mountain, briefed by your licensed SHGM pilot, and airborne within a couple of hours of leaving your room. Flights land on the beach in Ölüdeniz, right where the town is waiting.
